Dr. Hulce leads the Department of Chemistry's Laboratory for Metalloorganic Chemistry.

Dr. Hulce's laboratory investigates new synthetic methods in organic chemistry and the preparation of small, functionally rich organic molecules.  Ongoing work includes the development of new allene-forming reactions, the synthesis of modified amino acids for solid phase peptide synthesis, the generation, use and detection of singlet oxygen, and halogen-specific aromatic dehalogenation reactions.
