Two areas of research are being pursued in the Haas lab. First is the design of inhibitors of human Galectins as basic research tools to better understand Galectin function and as potential lead compounds for chemotherapeutic drugs. This is being accomplished through a combination of computer simulation, organic synthesis, and bench biochemistry. The second project is an investigation of changes in total protein expression in insect cells exposed to various biochemically important compounds. Goals of this project include elucidation of biochemical pathways.
