About the Department
Creighton’s Department of Chemistry is one of the top producers of American
Chemical Society-certified Bachelor of Science graduates in the nation, ranking
9th in the 2002-2003 academic year for those schools without a graduate program.
We have 16 full time faculty and graduate between 25 and 45 majors per year,
with an average enrollment of 70 in majors’ programs. Nearly all chemistry
majors participate in research, either with our own faculty or in summer programs
at other universities. We have modern instrumentation in the teaching laboratories,
including a 300 MHz NMR, two GC/MS instruments, and several GC’s, AA’s,
IR’s, and UV-Vis spectrophotometers. Additionally, we have a computer laboratory
equipped with both Macintosh and PC’s for the use of our majors. We provide
a warm, open environment so that our students feel comfortable coming to professors
whenever they need help or just want to chat.
